Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Web site?
Every business needs a Web site. Without one your competitors have an
advantage. Web sites and email are rapidly replacing the Yellow Pages
and the telephone as the preferred method of finding and/or contacting
businesses.
What do I need to do to get a
web site?
Firstly, contact us. We can give advice and assistance. Generally you
will require someone like us to create a web page for you, or you can
create one for yourself. Then you will need someone to make you site available
on the Internet. This service is referred to as Web Hosting. Some Internet
Service Providers will include this as part of their service. As with
most things, you get what you pay for. The better sites are usually hosted
by specialised hosting services.
Can I register a domain name
e.g.. www.jenson.com.au?
If you have a registered business name then you can register a .com.au
domain name using that business name. Some other domain types such as
.org, .net and
.edu do not require a business name. Also,
it is currently possible to register a .com
(rather than a .com.au) which does not require
a business name but this is likely to change in the near future. For more
information, visit Internet Names Worldwide
or Internet Name Group.
Do I need to have a computer?
No, but it is recommended. If you want to send or receive email or take
advantage of other Internet services, you will need your own computer.
Can Jenson Technology create a site
with fancy graphics?
Yes if that is your requirement. Generally the most effective business
sites are those which get to the point. These generally keep graphics
to a minimum. Also, graphics generally take longer to load than text.
Someone who has a slow connection may give up before receiving the message
you are trying to convey. Graphics such as this one
break the monotony and attract attention, but they should be related to
the topic of the site. They can also create atmosphere but this should
not be at the expense of performance.
What about Email?
It is possible to send and receive email without having your own web
site. Most ISPs as well as some portal providers (e.g.. hotmail, yahoo,
ninemsn) provide email accounts. For a business, it always gives a better
impression if your email is addressed to someone@yourcompany.com.au.
Can I get more than one email?
Yes, if you have a web site with them, your ISP or Web Hoster will generally
provide for multiple email recipients. Generally, the more you are paying
for your web hosting the more email accounts you will have.
