27 November 2000
Ch. Jenson Smart Cookie got Reserve Challengs Bitch and Intermediate In Show under Mrs Peggy Esposito (USA) at the 10th Austrlian Dobermann National in Melbourne. Our full results will follow when we get some photos.
!8 November 2000
Lea finished off Cory's Championship title today at  Brunswick Valley. Well done Lea and "the Camel". This weekend was too wet and muddy for us to show in Sydney. We had a great time on Saturday at the wedding of Karen and Allan Charles daughter. Sunday we went to the markets. We heard that Erskine Park was a mud bog. Glad we didn't go!!!
11-12 November 2000
A weekend away for the family. Day one was Dungog with Striker going BOB and Best in Group and Venus winning Res Chall & R/Up BOB. It is only a small show and so we could park right next to the ring and relax. Did the tourist thing after the show and then headed off for Warners Bay. Checked into the Motel and had dinner there. They have a Japanese Teppanyaki restaurant where they throw your food at you.....literally. Next day the show was at Hillsborough. Striker got Res dog and Venus Res bitch and R/Up BOB. Striker's daughter, Lenaven Heaven's Creation won Junior in Group.
4-5 November 2000
Off to Orange for the weekend to give our new Toledo trailer a run. We left Friday afternoon and drove my 88 year old father up with us to stay for the weekend with his 92 year old sister. Had a pleasant weekend weather wise but not too good in the ring. Venus decided to limp on the Saturday so I had to withdraw her. Striker managed to win Res Chall on Sunday but thats all. Had dinner on the Saturday night with Susan and Malcolm Ramm at an Italian restaurant. It was a good night despite the entertainer who was singing right next to us!
29 October 2000
Off to the show today at Erskine Park with just Striker. He won Res Chall and R/Up BOB.
28 October 2000
Had 2 shows today at Hillsborough. At the morning show Striker won BOB, R/Up Best in Group and Open In Group. At the second show he won Chall & R/Up BOB. Only showed Striker at these shows. Took our old trailer today as someone wanted to see it. We'll have to try out our new trailer next weekend.
26 October 2000
Another day getting the trailer a Blue Slip from the garage and then onto the Registry again to do all the paperwork, pay the stamp duty on a new trailer and then the rego fees to get the plates. Next time I think I'll buy a good second hand one :)
25 October 2000
Spent the day running around picking up the new trailer from the other side of Sydney. Then I had to get it weighed. Then onto the Motor Registry to pick up the necessary paperwork for it.
22 October 2000
Showed at Erskine Park again but could only manage a 3rd. At least it makes for an early trip home. Not a good weekend of showing but you have them from time to time.
21 October 2000
Striker wins a 2nd today. Mike went fishing to Brooklyn and managed to catch us some fish we can eat. Had a huge one for dinner.
20 October 2000
Resigned from my job today. What was I thinking!!!! Who will keep the dogs in the style they are used to now??? Shastah in season. We won't be mating her this season as we will mate Lyra instead.
14 October 2000
Arrived back in Sydney this morning. It's great to be home.
29 September - 13 October 2000
Here goes the saga of our trip to the US Nationals in San Diego. Hope you enjoy it.
25 September 2000
Mike and I had our first taste of the Sydney Olympics. We caught public transport in and it was very quick and efficent. Wandered around and had a look at the complex. Took some corny photos of me "holding" the Olympic torch. Bumped into people we knew....amongst the thousands. Took our seats in the Grandstands and later on, the people we bumped into earlier sat down in the row behind us. What a coinsidence!!!!
We watched many of the finals and saw Tatiana win the Silver in the Women's High Jump. The climax of the night was the final of the Women's 400 metres. We  ( the whole stadium) cheered Cathy Freemann on to a magnificent win. It was truly a great run for her and a thrill as a spectator for us.
10 September 2000
Attended the Utility Dog Show at Erskine Park. Striker won a 3rd and Venus won her class. Had a good chat with Michelle Cowin and Jodie. Mike stayed at home and continued building me a desk for my computer : )
7 September 2000
Today is our wedding Anniversary. What do you do on a special night like that? Go to a Dobermann Club meeting. What else!
30 August 2000
My birthday. I'm not telling how many candles!!!!! Let's just say that I live in a bushfire area so not too many naked flames are allowed.
28 August 2000
Mike begins his new job. In Sydney!!!!!
27 August 2000
Dalwwod Show. Striker wins BOB and Open in Group under Mr Shoreman from Canada. Mike and Venus stayed home to watch the Footy Grand Final.
26 August 2000
Dalwood. Only took Striker today as Venus is having an attack of  hormone lethargy which is unlike her. Striker won Res Chall and R/Up BOB.
25 September 2000
Mike celebrates his return to his home and doggie family by going to a show!!!!!!! I think he decided that if he stayed home he would have too many jobs to do, so the dog show looked like an attractive alternative. Striker won a 2nd and Res Chall. Venus won her class but she was very sluggish.....perhaps a phantom. Had a pleasant lunch provided by George and Leonie. They took their portable Bar-B-Q to the 3 shows over the weekend and provided sausages and rolls for all.
24 September 2000
Mike arrived home from Perth to stay after his 3month contract over there. I picked him up from the airport around 10.30pm. It's great to have him home.
21 August 2000
Left Dawn's around 5am. Had a good run through to Sydney. The house and contents were all safe and sound thanks to my sister and the neighbours. The garden however was really dry, with Sydney having had very little rain while I was gone.
20 August 2000
Spent the afternoon at Andrew and Robyns house. Finally got to meet Jack. Laurie Stidworthy was also there. We had a delicious Bar-B-Que.I didn't stay too late as I had a long drive the next day.
19 August 2000
We all went to the dog show at the Melbourne Showground. I took all the dogs in Dawns trailer so as not to leave them at home. Striker got to ride in the back of the car. Who said he is spoiled? Anthony won BOB with his brown dog. Bev Ross fed us lunch and I wandered around the carpark looking at trailers. Out to dinner that night with Ken, Dawn, Andrew, Robyn and myself.
18 August 2000
Dawn and I took the dogs to her pool at work and gave them all a swimming lesson. Shastah was the best, Striker was not too bad, but Venus wanted to get out all the way around. We went out to dinner that night to an Italian restaurant with friends of Ken and Dawn.
17 August 2000
Got up very early this morning in order to get into Melbourne before the evening traffic rush. Had an easy drive and stopped to meet the Toledo man Pat. Discussed the possibilities for a new trailer. Only took one wrong turn getting to Dawns. When I got there I gave them  a good stretch in her front paddock and opened a bottle and sat and watched them free run. Went out that night with Dawn and Andrew to the Dobe Club meeting. What else do you do after a long drive from Adelaide???
9-16 August 2000
Spent most of this time fetching and carrying for Jen. She was in considerable pain for the first few days but things improved as time went on. We did lots of talking and eating and drinking. I did the shopping, poo patrol, cooking and dog feeding. It was good to have the time together. Her combustion fire was kept burning 24 hours a day and I kept wheelbarrowing wood. Luckily she had a good supply. We did go out one night to the home of Phil and Marilnn Hastie where we enjoyed a very pleasant evening of food, wine and conversation. Phil has also got knee troubles and he and Jen compared notes. We saw his new pup from  Karen Hartley-Cornwell and she looked very promising.
8 August 2000
Took Jeni into the hospital todat to have surgery done on her knee. She had decided to make good use of me while I had the time away from home. All went well and she and I hobbled home. ( my toe was still killing me)
6 August 2000
Drove back to Perth today. Had breakfast at the Busselton Jetty. Back to the flat to pack and get to the airport for my flight to Adelaide where Jen picked me up.
5 August 2000
Drove fro Denmark through to Margaret River, stopping at the Forest walk through th e tree tops....very scary on a wet and windy day. Had a lunch of Marron at Pemberton.
4 August 2000
Mike took today off and we set off for Albany to do the tourist thing. We stayed at Denmark that night and had a lovely dinner at the cabin's restaurant.
3 August 2000
Went in to have lunch with Mike after Eddie and Lynette had to cancel our lunch plans.
1 August 2000
Over to Denises today to visit with Heath and Brook. It's nice to see them again. Took some photos. That night I slipped in the bath/shower and injured my little toe on my right foot. Hobbled out to dinner. Another injury!
31 July 2000
Today is Denise Ball's birthday so we all went out to dinner. Some of her Perth friends went as well and we all had a good night.
30 July 2000
Today I flew off to Perth leaving Jeni to look after the 7 dogs while I'm gone.  It's great to be with Mike again.
29 July 2000
Jeni back from her trip.
27 July 2000
Helen and Jess picked me up and we went shopping to Glenelg. Had a meal at a Thai restaurant. Decided to bring my dogs down from the trailer in the shed into crates in the house. The two girls kept each other company in one room and Striker got to camp in my room which made him a happy dog.
26 July 2000
Jeni flew off to New Zealand for work for a few days. I stayed and minded my 3 and her 4 dogs.
24 July 2000
The Melbourne contingent headed of in the wee hours of the morning, not before Anthony made sure I was awake. The weather was yucky and stayed that way for most of  my time in Adelaide.
23 July 2000
Today was the second all breeds show judged by Mrs Serantes from Argentina. She gave Striker BOB and Venus R/Up BOB. By the end of the day we were all exhausted.
22 July 2000
Two shows today. First we drag all our crates to the all breeds ring for the Marion Show. Lyra gets Best of Breed and Cookie wins Intermediate in Show. We then drag our stuff over to the Dbe Specialty area which is set aside for the Club. Striker wins a good Open dog class but gets pipped by Helen's dog and get Reserve Challenge and Opp Sex Open in Show. Venus wins her class and Shastah gets a 2nd and Res Chall from the Open class. Jeni took Shastah back in for me and won the Res. Karen and Allan Charles kindly offered to take Lyra back to Sydney for me as they were heading back after the Specialty. That will make life easier till I get home. It is already difficult trying to keep Venus, who is now on day 9, out of Striker's way. We went out to dinner either this night or the next night to a pub in the Southern Vales. It was very nice and we met Peter and June Martin there. Jeni drove us there and we had lots of fun in the car. Next time you see Andrew ask him what the trip was like!!!
21 July 2000
Preparations for the weekend shows. Dawn, Andrew and Anthony arrived later. The guys get to slept together as do Dawn and I. Nothing unusual about that for dog show people.
20 July 2000
I must say the scenery on the trip so far has been beautiful. There has obviously been rain lately and it wasn't too hot or dry. The trip into Adelaide was good. It only started to rain on my arrival. That's not unusual....just ask Jen. Settled in, ate and drank and lots of talk till very late.
19 July 2000
Not many places to walk the dogs between Cobar and Broken Hill. There were plenty of huge burrs that got stuck in their pads when you ventured too far. I found the perfect spot....a childrens playground which was fully fenced and had bark chips on the ground. None of the old grey-haireds seem to mind me running the dogs in there. I picked up after them and there were no kids around for miles. Arrived at Broken Hill and found a really good spot to stay. It was a cabin at the back of the Sturt Motel. It had a cement area to park the car, plenty of lawn to stake the dogs out and some shade if necessary....and it was very private. If you are showing there I can recommend this place. It had a microwave too etc.
18 July 2000
Set off around 9.30 and made it to Cobar in time to settle in for the night. Not a really dog friendly motel so I stayed close in case the dogs made a noise. Had to order home delivery ribs for dinner. Bummer!!!!
17 July 2000
had a leisurely morning packing and waving goodbye to friends. Set off and headed to Bendemeer which is just north of Tamworth. I stayed the night with the Foulstone's who are friends of Lea. Cherice cooked a really yummy baked dinner and we had a few drinks.
16 July 2000
Another day of good weather for the show. We set up in our usual spot. It was funny not having Mike there with me. It wasn't quite the same. He is my gopher as well as my husband and he does a good job......at both : ) Had a very successful day. Ray Carlisle was the judge from USA. In the dogs, we got a 6th in Open dog with 12 exhibits present. We did better in the bitch classes. Venus won the Intermediate class and went on to win Intermediate in Show. Shastah won 3rd in Aust Bred and Lyra won the Open class, Challenge bitch and Runner Up to BIS with Lea handling her for me. She did a great job and Lyra looked and worked great. Lesley Trood also did well winning the Open Dog class and Res Chall with her Taylor son, Arthur.  Taylor's kids did very well! We watched the Agility after the show which was lots of fun. Then we had the presentations and then back to the motel a bit exhausted after a long day.
15 July 2000
Up early and off to the WAE. Dawn is the evaluator. Our judge for the next day was there assisting on the WAE. Some Qld members shove entry forms under my nose and twist my arm to enter on the day. Oh well, what do I have to lose? I decided not to enter Venus as she is hormonal, having just come into season. Only 3 dogs passed on the day and none of them were mine. Striker was the best of them and only missed out by getting a minus one on the final part of the aggressor. All the others passed everything else but the aggressor. Maybe next time. Back to the motel for more last minute grooming, drinking and dinner.
14 July 2000
Set off for Brisbane after lunch. We all settled in and began the usual ritual of grooming the dogs and having a drink on the lawns at the motel They always make us feel very welcome. We have dinner at the motel. The food is good and there is plenty of it. Just my luck....Venus comes into season. Poor Striker.
13 July 2000
Set off with Striker, Venus, Shastah and Lyra. I decided that Eckie would be much happier sleeping next to the bed at the Batten's house. We do a swap when I show Lyra. They would actually love to keep Eckie, but she is much loved here and Mike would kill me if I let her go. I met up with Karen and Allen Charles on the trip up at Macksville. We had a counter lunch on the verandah there overlooking the river, the dogs and  the trailer! After lunch I continued on and arrived at Lea's before dark. It's always great to spend time with Lea and Neil. Had a look at some of her Moccha/Cory pups. Very nice.
13 July - 21 August 2000
With Mike being away working in Perth and me being on leave from my job, I decided to take a doggie journey around Australia. This would take in the DobermannClub of Queensland's Champ Show as well as the Dobe Specialty in Adelaide. Thrown in as well were 2 All Breeds shows in Adelaide on the same weekend. How could I resist?
10 July 2000
Jeni Matthews birthday today. Happy Birthday Jen!
9 July 2000
Today in Sydney Striker wins Chall and R/Up BOB.
8 July 2000
Today in Sydney Venus wins Challenge bitch and Junior in Group and Striker wins Res Chall and R/Up BOB.
5 July 2000
Karen Charles over for lunch and to have a look at Sizzle, our returned pup. Their bitch, Fancy, needs a playmate and Sizzle should fit the bill. Of course Karen can't resist her so Sizzle now has a new family.
2 July 2000
Mike off again, back to Perth.
30 June 2000
Mike and I both fly back for a celebration for his parent's 60th wedding anniversary.
21 June 2000
Maureen Swain over around lunch time to stay and mind the dogs for a week or so. I am off to Perth to spend some time with Mike.
18 June 2000
Felt a bit under the weather today but not as bad as others : ) Alex Marsland that gave me a hand showing Venus yesterday helped me again today. Striker won BOB and R/Up Best in Group. Venus won R/Up BOB.
17 June 2000
Up early and off to Taree for the weekend.Striker won Chall and Venus won BOB. Out to dinner at the pub with a bunch of stewards and exhibitors. They took pity on me having to walk 5 Dobes by myself so they all took one for me which made for a much easier night.
12 June 2000 The last of the three shows today. Striker won Chall and Open in Group but was beaten for BOB by Venus who went on to win Junior in Group. Had an uneventful drive home this time : )
11 June 2000
The weather this weekend is fine and sunny but a bit cold. Striker won BOB and Open in Group. Venus won Chall, R/Up BOB and Junior in Group. Chatted with Ross and Chris and Shawne, who are from Dubbo and Orange. They are all big Striker fans.
10 June 2000
Mae was there at the show so it was good to see her again. Striker won BOB and her fawn bitch won the bitch Challenge.
9 June 2000
Always one for adventure, I set off with the 4 dogs again for the shows at Parkes. Dropped in to visit Karen and Allan Charles on the way through. Got to the motel in good time after a pleasant drive.....and no snow!
30 May 2000
By about midday the news was good. Leave now if you want to get home or there may be more snow coming later!!! We left and drove home via Katoomba. There was no sign of snow or ice when we were well away from the Bathurst/Lithgow area. I followed Laurie home most of the way. It was great to get home, give the dogs a good run and thaw myself out in front of the fire.
29 May 2000
Got up and walked the dogs and discovered Mae and Laurie looking for me. They had initially thought that I'd made it through before the road had closed but a few phonecalls from concerned friends let them know otherwise. I checked out and we drove back to Mae's. The roads were still closed and Maris needed to get Trend to the dog for a mating so she had to fly back from Bathurst airport which was still functioning. That left Laurie, Mae and myself to occupy our time till the roads re-opened. WE went into town to pick up some important supplies.....food and alcohol. We settled in and waited to hear of news of the roads. We contemplated driving around the snow bound areas but found that was a really long way and that the roads there were doubtful as well. Mae cooked us dinner and we stayed the night.
28 May 2000
Striker won Res Chall as did Venus with Maria's dog winning Best In Group and Venus winning R/Up BIG.Because of this, we all had to stay till the end of the show. We both set off for home. The weather was getting bitterly cold and there had been some talk of snow at the show. I was following Laurie and Maria when I noticed that the sprinkles were turning to snow! The closer we got to Orange the heavier it got. There was snow over the road, all over the trees and houses. It looked like a Xmas card and very beautiful..........but also very scary when you are by yourself towing a trailer full of dogs. We all drove very slowly and very carefully and we finally arrived in Orange. I thought about stopping as the conditions were getting hazardous but what would I do with the dogs??? They would need walking and would they be warm enough in a trailer covered with snow??? Laurie kept going and so did I. Going down the main street of Orange was scary as there are traffic lights there. I know that if they had turned red that the car and trailer would have kept sliding through them as I'd already tried to gently slow down which resulted in a certain amount of "skiing". As we drove out of Orange and finished decending down the hills we drove out of the snow. What a relief! I passed Laurie and Maria when they pulled in for petrol. I figured all would be safe for the rest of the trip. As I was driving out of Bathurst I saw Mae Hart on the side of the road. I pulled over to say hello. She was waiting to pick up her bitch from Maria to do a mating with. I said goodbye and set off again. I hadn't gone far when I noticed there were dog trailers on the side of the road facing back into Bathurst. I drove on a bit thinking that was very odd. I saw the traffic building up and realised that the road ahead must be cut off. I quickly did a U Turn and headed back to the first motel I could find that I had stayed at before. There was a queue of people waiting to get a room and people were ringing ahead in order to book a room. I was very lucky to get the last room. I did not have Mae's new phone number or address so I was glad to have a room for the night. I settled in and had luckily taken enough dog food for an extra day or two in case I got tired and wanted to break the journey. I fed the dogs and walked them, then set off to buy dinner and get a bottle of wine. If you are stranded you may as well be comfortable.
27 May 2000
Won 2 Reserve Challenges today. Maria and Laurie Wheeler were there and we chatted on and off over the weekend. It was very cold.
26 May 2000
While the cats away, the mice will play. I packed up all 5 dogs and headed for Dubbo for a double weekend. Little was I to know of the adventure before me. Arrived there late in the afternoon and settled in for the night.
22 May 2000
Mike begins his new job. I hope he likes it there.......but not too much!
21 May 2000
Drove Mike in to Sydney airport to catch his flight to Perth. He is going over for 3 months to work. It is a very sad time for me as I'll miss him a lot and so will the dogs. I decided to go straight from the airport to the show at Castle Hill. At least it will take my mind off missing Mike already. Managed to win 2 Reserve Challenges.
20 May 2000
This was our first show since the Dobe Festival in April. Striker won Challenge and R/Up BOB at Castle Hill.
27 April 2000
Congratulations to Corinne and Ray Nunn on winning BOB at Sydney Royal with their Ch Jenson Shastina son Ch Cozdobe Pilgrims Blessin.
Andrew set off for Melbourne early this morning.
Striker had a non malignant small lump removed from his show side thigh. He is recovering fine. He didn't want to be outdone by Venus so he now has 8 bright blue stitches of his own!! (see 27 November 1999)
Cory waited for Lea to arrive home from the shows to have her pups. She allowed her to get in a nights sleep before beginning to whelp at around 6.30 am. She had 5 bitches and 3 dogs. All are black and are doing well. So much for the accuracy of some ultrasounds. Lea was told early on that Cory was not pregnant. Good thing  no one told Cory!!
25 April 2000
Day 4. Today was a big all-breeds show and the parking was correspondingly crowded. We had to do the crate carrying thing to get our dogs close to the ring. Our judge for the day was Mr  Thomas Lim from Singapore who has some breed involvement. Ruth's pups did no good today. Striker did really well to win a quality Open Dog class and then win the Challenge. Cookie turned the tables on Venus by winning the Junior class and then going on to Res Chall and Runner Up to the BOB. Venus won 2nd in the class. Shastah was the only one present in Aust Bred so obviously won an easy first. The judge for the group was Mrs Judith Brown (USA) our judge from the day before. She awarded Ch. Tanunda Dernier Cri Best In Group and then gave Ch Jenson Smart Cookie Junior in Group much to the delight of Luiz who was busy taking photos. Neither Dobes went up in General Specials. It had been a very long day and we were all glad to be going home. Dawn had left for home after Breed judging (when she could get out of the car park). Andrew and I were certainly looking forward to a sleep in and a restful day tomorrow.
Last day of the LONG weekend for all of us....the Southern contingent daily report. Genie surpasses herself on the final day of judging by winning BOB, BEST IN GROUP and Junior in Show!!! Axel wins the Dog Challenge yet again and Alli sneaks in an Intermediate in Group. Well done!!!! Andrew is green with envy as he and Cookie have yet to score a Best in Group. It's all in the handling isn't it Jen?
24 April 2000
Day 3. No such thing as a sleep in today but we were a bit slower off the mark. Another day of good weather. Today was a day of many different winners to the first day. Ruth's pups again won their classes and Jenson The Heat Is On won a Merit in Baby Dog. Striker got a 4th in Open Dog . Cookie won 4th in Junior and Venus won a Merit. Jenson Drivin Miss Daisy won a Merit in Intermediate, Ch Jenson Shastina won 2nd in Aust Bred and her son won Best Junior in Show. Over all we didn't do as well as Saturday but that's dog shows for you. The two bitches that were owned by Loretta Pope and were staying here with us did really well. They won Chall and Res Chall bitch.
After the show we rushed home, fed dogs, showered etc. and were back for the after-show get together. We were fortunate to have our judge from Saturday, Luis sitting at our table. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. We picked his brains as best we could and thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. The speech he gave to all in attendance was long and highlighted his passion for Dobes and the breeding of them.
Unfortunately we ran out of time to speak with our Monday judge Mrs Judith Brown from the USA. She seemed to enjoy the chance to visit Australia and judge the show.
South Aussie report......Axel wins Chall Dog and Aust Bred in Group and Genie wins Res Challenge, R/up BOB and Junior in Group.
23 April 2000
Day 2. A bit of a sleep in. Today was a more relaxing day for us all. I left all the dogs at home except for Miss Neck ( I really should give her a name). Mike had stuck some elastoplast on her ears to stop the fold that had developed. It only took 3 days for the folds to go. I recommend Mike's method to anyone.
Ruth's Baby bitch won Baby in Parade and Jenson The Heat Is On came 4th in Baby Dog. Jenson Drivin Miss Daisy won Open in Parade.
We were going to have a big BBQ at our place tonight but decided that we were being a bit too adventurous taking into account the drop out rate of the previous night. We did have a BBQ on a smaller scale with the great stayers, Karen and Allan attending and also Anthony Ross who had decided to stay the night.
More South Australian results....Genie wins BOB and Junior in Show and Axel wins Res Chall. This makes Genie Ch. Jenson Sheza Genius. She is the 3rd Champion from Shastah's first litter. Another good reason for celebrating hey girls?
22 April 2000
The morning of the first show arrived. The weather is good and we are all in tip top show mode. Full results of all the shows and the winners are available on the Dobermann Pacifica site. I will only give mention to notable wins. I hope that offends no one. Our judge for the day is Mr Luiz Fernando Ribas Silva from Brazil.
Winners for the day were both of  Ruth's Striker pups in Baby dog and bitch handled by Dawn. Striker did well to win a good 2nd in Open dog.
Venus did extremely well by winning Junior Bitch, Reserve Challenge and Runner Up BIS. Cookie was loved by Luiz but he called the steward to check on our standard about  the cowlick on her neck and then awarded her a Merit award. He said in his country she would do really well. He took many photos of her on the Tuesday while he was watching the show.
Shastah again proved her quality by winning the Australian Bred bitch class and going on to beat the Reserve Challenge Dog to win Australian Bred in Show. She is also the mother of the Runner up to BIS - Venus. As well as this, she had just raised by herself without any supplementary feeding her second litter of 13 born only 15 weeks earlier. She fed them till they were 4 weeks old. Her sister, Ch Jenson Shastina was 4th in the same class.
Lyra, Striker's daughter Ch Jenson Strikes Back was expertly handled in Open bitch by Lea. She managed a wonderful 3rd place even though she was carrying quite a bit of excess weight.
After a very successful day we raced home to fed the dogs and organise ourselves for dinner at a nearby hotel. Obviously many of the others who were going to join us are not made of as tough stuff as us. We found ourselves at dinner with only Karen and Allan Charles joining us. The steaks we ordered were HUGE even by Andrew's standards. Needless to say our dogs did enjoy the thick juicy left-overs.
More news from Port Augusta.......Axel wins the Challenge again and R/up BOB and Genie wins Junior in Group. Zandra's bitch Kellmann Who's Wicked finished off her Championship today. I guess there was plenty of celebrating going on back at the motel.
2 of Striker and Shastah's litter had their debut today in Perth. Both won their classes against older competition. The dog Heath went on to win Baby in Group. Well done Denise and Greg!!
21 April 2000
Spent the day cleaning out the dog trailer, washing dog beds, grooming dogs, washing dogs etc.....ouch my back!!!! I'm getting too old for this. Maybe I should pace myself better. When all were groomed and fed who feels like cooking? Home delivery pizza sounded great. Next problem.....what to wear? It will have to be what fits.
Meanwhile, Jeni and Zandra are having a weekend away in Port Augusta. Today was Axel's day as he won Best of Breed and Aust. Bred in Show. Not far behind were Genie and Alli with Genie winning Challenge and R/Up BOB and Alli winning Intermediate in Group.
20 April 2000
Dawn Ayton arrived here this afternoon to stay for the Easter Dobermann shows. Andrew arrived later in the day with a trailer as long as our garage and 8 Dobes - 3 of his (Cookie, Jade and Cruz), 2 of Loretta Pope's bitches, 2 of Ruth and Graham's Striker pups and the nomadic Miss Neck who was returned. After all the dogs were settled ther was plenty of dog talk, eating  and drinking. Unfortunately Ruth couldn't make it as she wasn't well.
12 April 2000
Maureen Swain arrives and we are off for a few days rest and recreation without any dogs!!! Got in the car and headed north. Stayed at Sails Resort in Port Macquarie for a couple of days and can thoroughly recommend it. We ate and drank lots and had a great time.
10 April 2000
Miss Neck flew off today. It is definetely quite around here now. All the pups have gone.
5 April 2000
Our last male went today to his new home. We minded the pup for about an extra month as his new owner had work commitments and we didn't like the idea of such a young pup being in a boarding kennel. We are down to our last pup - Miss Neck who is due to go to Melbourne soon.
2 April 2000
Packed up all the dogs and off to Bulli Show. We took our 2 remaining pups for some socialisation and lead training. They enjoyed their day by the beach and the attention of passers by. Striker won BOB and Venus won Res. Challenge under Mr T. Syme ( Vic). We took some photos of Striker and Venus with the ocean behind them. It was an overcast day with some drizzle but it is a great spot for photos. We will put the photos up on their pages soon.
1 April 2000
Reserve Chall for Venus in Sydney.
26 March 2000
Another pup, Chilli, flies from the nest, this time to Hobart and the home of Maree Brown.
Jeni and Genie win Challenge Bitch again today. The points are adding up!
25 March 2000
Everyone has finally decided on which pups they want from the litter. Phoebe flew to her new home in Brisbane at Ebondobe Kennels and Heath and Brook made the long flight to Perth to the home of Denise and Greg Ball. All bounced happily out of their crates glad to finally meet their new parents.
More wins this weekend for Jeni. Today Axel won Res Chall, Runner Up to BOB and Junior in Group and Genie won a good Challenge Bitch.
17-20 March 2000
Ever had one of those weekends when nothing goes right? Maybe Venus' injury the day before the show should have told me something.....- not me. I took Striker and decided to take Venus if only to keep her off  her foot, out of Mike's way and to keep Striker company. My saving grace for the weekend was the company of Karen and Allan Charles. We went out to dinner together every night and even went to the pictures one rainy afternoon after we bombed out. I ended up showing Venus at 3 of the 4 shows and she won her class each time, got 2 Reserve Challenges and a Junior in Group on the last day just so I would have to stay at the show till the very end .......only for her to limp in General Specials after being on her foot too much that day!
Jeni did a bit better in Adelaide on the Saturday winning Res Challenge with both Axel and Genie and going on to Junior in Group with Genie.
16 March 2000
Venus never ceases to amaze me. This afternoon I let her out of her enclosure to run up to the house and she managed to jump in some chicken wire surrounding a new citrus tree and cut her pad open and also sliced up the side of her foot. Seeing we have had prevoius cuts with her we knew that a trip to the vets was useless as they can't stitch up a pad so I treated her with disinfectant and left it at that. She is a good healer, not a bleeder and forgets her injuries and so doesn't aggravate them with too much licking. Mind you, this was the day before a 4 show weekend in Canberra. Good timing hey?
12 March 2000
Today was the Utility Match Day organised by Maria Wheeler. She invited Striker to participate in Open Dog and Venus was put in Australian Bred. Both did extremely well by winning their classes with Striker winning Best Open in Match. There was some confusion at the end as the Samoyed Club had entered the same dog in 2 classes. Nevertheless, the Dobermann team were victorious despite this and the dreadful heat and humidity.
In Adelaide today Jeni had a great day winning a terrific Best of Breed under Mrs Rempel from Canada. Way to go Jen!
7 March 2000
Tania Hill's litter to Striker out of Rembrandt are born today. 3 dogs and 2 bitches - all black.
6 March 2000
Miss Neck is not eating again. Mike takes her up to the vet again. They want to keep her there to keep an eye on her. She had no drip or medication - just observation till Thursday. All other pups doing fine.
5 March 2000
Impatient puppy buyers arrive today and pick up their pups. It was an exhausting day. 7 pups went to their new homes this weekend and now the puppy run looks empty with only 6 pups left.
Res Chall today in SA for Jeni and Genie.
4 March 2000
Miss Neck (pick bitch) is back from the vet's and looking a bit on the skinny side. She must have screamed her lungs out as she didn't have much of a bark left. She is eating a special loaf  from the vet's and is back to her usual boisterous self.. Andrew heads off  for Melbourne with his pup after a tough decision was made on which puppy he would prefer.
2 March 2000
Pick bitch of the litter not well. Up to the vet's and on a drip - just in case! All other pups are OK but loose in motions. Hope all will be fine. Andrew arrived to pick up his pup but under vet's advice he'll have to wait a few days. Andrew and I set up a puppy pooing chart and sit outside to watch and give marks out of 10 for puppy poos. Have you ever watched the diving scores they used to give? All pups seemed to have a dose of some tummy upset but all were fine and no others had to go to the vet's.

6 February 2000
Put the pups outside for the first time. They are 4 weeks old now and need to be in the big wide world. They love it. Now all of us can get some sleep, even Shastah. Looking after 13 pups in 2 whelping boxes has been a full-time job for all of us. I slept in my own bed for the first time in ages!!
30 January 2000

Thanks to all those folks at the Sydney Easter Dobermann Festival who said they love our web site but complained that I haven't updated it since January. It's nice to know that someone reads the ramblings that I write. My excuse...........YOU have a litter of 13, raise them with all the love and attention you can spare, have many visitors of the pet and show variety to assess and pick that special pup that is to be theirs, work part-time and have a life as well. Not forgetting the feeding, hosing down, washing Drybeds, picking up lots of dog poo ( which there is a lot of  for 13 pups) , cutting puppy nails ( 16 nails on each pup and 13 pups = 208 nails )  worming, vaccinations and more. Then there's the paper work involved, 26 names to submit for registration, micro chipping, photo taking, phone calls, emails etc etc. By the way,  we included the words Hot or Heat in all the pup's names as Shastah is the name of a Californian volcano.
Life is now nearly back to normal. We have one pup returned to us as she was not what they were looking for so we will keep her here for a while as she reminds us strongly of a her mother Shastah at the same age. Anyone interested?
Now to return to the job at hand................raking my brain for the events of  the past 3 and a bit months. If  I've left out any notable achievements of our dogs and their owners, please forgive me and email me the  info. Hopefully we will have a Guestbook up and running on our site in the next few months (Mike willing). You will be welcome to add comment or info to the site that way. Other than that......email me. Mike is going away on a "working holiday" to Perth for a few months so Striker and I will be "holding the fort" while he is away and any correspondence from fellow Dobe lovers would be appreciated.
Here goes the update......

23 January 2000
Jeni and Axel win Res Chall in Adelaide.

15 - 22  January 2000
Jenson So Sweet (Candy)  a daughter of Sue and Farrah is holidaying here for the week. She usually spends some of the Xmas holidays with us while her family go on holidays. She will be 12 in April. At the moment we have 4 generations of Jenson Dobes under our roof. She is our new litter's Great Grandmother on both sides.
14, 15, & 16  January 2000
I set off for the Canberra shows on Friday afternoon  taking Striker and Venus. Mike stayed home to keep an eye on Shastah and her pups - an around the clock job at the moment. To  prove it wasn't a fluke last weekend Venus again won 3 of the 4 Challenges on offer this weekend and finished off  her points for her Championship by winning a 19 point Best of Breed and Runner Up to Best in Group. She is now Ch. Jenson Bright Spark. She won Reserve Challenge at the other show, being beaten by Strikers' daughter (Cozdobe Soul Rhythm) from the Minor Class. Well done. Striker also had a good weekend winning 2 Best of Breeds and 2 Runner Up Best of Breeds ( one of these being the Open Show judged by Jan Seary of Auslander Dobes. She also awarded him Runner Up in Group.)
8 January 2000
Shastah whelped her litter today. She had been huge so we knew to expect lots of pups. She didn't disappoint us. Between Saturday morning and Sunday morning she whelped 14 pups. Ouch! One bitch was stillborn so we have 8 males and 5 females to rear. They are all fairly even and all black and rust. She is a great mum . We have split the litter up into 2 whelping boxes and Shastah spends her time going from one box to the other. We had to do this last year and found that it works very well. The smaller and weaker pups don't get pushed off and get a fair go in their own box. We didn't supplement last year and haven't done so yet this time. She has plenty of milk. After raising 13 pups this time last year she went on to win 2 Specialty Best in Shows so it didn't do her figure much harm. Hope she can come back this time again!
2 & 3 January 2000
The beginning of a new century and a great start for Venus. She won Challenge bitch in Sydney at both shows and Puppy in Show on Saturday.
