A Reserve Challenge for both Axel and Genie in Adelaide.
11 December 1999
Today was our first show since Melbourne. Striker won Challenge Dog and R/ Up BOB and Venus won Res Chall. Her scar and swelling have improved greatly but is still noticeable. It will take time.

In Adelaide Jeni had a good win with Axel and Genie with both of them winning their class at the Dobermann Club of S.A. at their Open Show. Genie went on to win Best Puppy in Show.
4 December 1999
Another Reserve Challenge for Genie in Adelaide.

Mike and I made our usual trip to Melbourne for the Victorian Dobermann Specialty to be judged by Mr Robert Vandiver of Mistel Kennels ( USA). We always like to go to catch up with friends and check out what other breeders are doing. We were not confident of doing well and resigned ourselves to just having a "look". This was because we had mated Shastah 3 weeks earlier and she was pregnant and Venus still had bright blue stitches across her back and a rather noticeable swelling surrounding it - very attractive!! Lyra was dropped off to us the night before we drove down and in the dark we didn't notice how FAT she was. On closer inspection in better lighting it was decided that the only class she was capable of winning  was the " dog that most closely resembles a piece of  furniture" - a table! There was no-one to mind her so she came for the ride. At least Striker was in one piece.
We arrived at the grounds and were nearly blown away! It was really windy and quite cold. Many people were making noises about shifting the show indoors but it went ahead outside with assurances that the wind would drop later that morning. Well it didn't to any noticeable degree. Carrying extra weight sometimes has it's advantages as I didn't blow away. The show went ahead and everyone and the dogs seemed to adjust.
It was great to see Cookie and Andrew again and Jeni Matthews with her crew; Allie, Genie and Axel.
Our results are:
Jenson Wise Guy - Best Puppy in Show
Ch. Jenson Thunderstruck (AI) - 3rd in Open Dog
Jenson Sheza Genius - 3rd in Puppy Bitch
Jenson Smart Cookie - 4th in Puppy Bitch
Ch. Jenson Shastah - Opposite Sex Australian Bred in Show
After the show we had a well - deserved drink or two in Jeni's room and then out to a dinner that Dawn had organised. We shall return!

6-7 November 1999
We went to Orange for the weekend. Striker got Best of Breed and Open in group on Saturday, but the most exciting thing that happened all weekend was that our car got bogged. We took Venus along for the ride but did not expect her to do well as she had 9 bright blue stitches across her back as the result of underestimating her height when going under something in our garden. Only the week before she managed to slice open her back pad. Maybe we should rename her "Catastrophe".
30 & 31 October 1999
Another Best in Group for Striker at Erskine park under Mr K Harris (SA) on Sat. and R / Up BOB on Sun.
23 October 1999
Challenge Dog and Runner Up BOB for Striker in Sydney under Mr Alan Addicott.

Today was the day I would see if my knee was recovered enough to last the day. Armed with a knee guard which was tight enough to cut off circulation to my lower leg and dosed up with Nurofen, I entered the ring. All seemed to be working. I could exhibit my own animals again.
We had a terrific day at the Dobermann Club of NSW Champ Show judged by Ms Glenys Alexander of Walamara Kennels in Victoria. Thank you Glenys!!!
Our beautiful "Shastah" took out her second Specialty Best Exhibit in Show this year from the Australian Bred Class. Her terrific conformation and effortless ground covering movement earned her this prestigious win.
Not to be outdone, Shastah's daughter Jenson Bright Spark - "Venus", took out Best Minor Puppy in Show.
Other results were:
Ch. Jenson Thunderstruck (ai)  - 2nd in Open Dog.
Jenson Star Spangled - 2nd in Puppy Bitch
Jenson Driving Miss Daisy - 2nd in Intermediate Bitch
Ch. Jenson Chelsea Bun - 3rd in Australian Bred Bitch
This year Futurity Sweepstakes was judged by Mr John Montgomery of Sonza Dobermanns (ACT). Jenson Star Spangled won the 9-12 months division and Jenson Bright Spark won the 6-9 months division and Best Puppy.

1-4 October 1999
What a weekend this was!! Loaded up with six dogs, two cars and two trailers, Lea Rushforth and myself set off for Canberra for an overdose of four dog shows in four days. The beaut weather turned bad the closer we got to Canberra and it continued to be rainy and miserable all weekend except miraculously for the day of the ACT Dobermann Specialty.
We arrived to wet grounds and proceeded to set up some shelter. Before I had even exhibited any of the dogs "Striker" was lunged at by a German Shepherd. I took evasive action which resulted in a near 180 degree splits with a twist to the left knee. Being a true exhibitor (or idiot) I muttered some suitable swear words under my breath at the inept handler of the Shepherd, gave my knee a therapeutic rub and went in the ring to exhibit "Striker". It didn't take long to realize that I had done some damage to my knee. It proceeded to swell up, become stiff and very painful. I could hardly put my foot to the ground. That was the end of my exhibiting for the weekend.
Poor Lea had the job of looking after me for the rest of the weekend as well as walking, feeding and showing my dogs as well as her own. She is truly a "saint".
Thank you to all the Dobe people who offered sympathy, advice, medications and help walking and showing my dogs. I truly appreciate it.
Despite this disastrous beginning we did mange to win a few awards with the team of dogs that we decided would work in the wet and we could manage to get near the ring.
Highlights of the All Breeds Shows are:
Jenson Bright Spark - an 18 point Bitch Challenge from Minor Puppy and Reserve Challenge to "Buns".
Ch. Jenson Chelsea Bun - Challenge Bitch, Runner Up BOB and Australian Bred in Group.

The Dobermann Club Show of ACT was judged on Saturday by Mr Phil Hastie (SA) of Hastenbrucke Dobermanns.
We had a nice win with Jenson Bright Spark winning Minor Puppy in Show.
Ch. Jenson Chelsea Bun was 2nd in Australian Bred handled by Lea and Ch. Jenson Shastah was 3rd to Buns handled by Lesley Trood. Thanks Les.

We're finally back home safe and sound from our trek to Brisbane for their annual Dobermann Specialty Show. We did extremely well  and are very proud of all of our Jenson Dobes and their handlers. Well done!.
Thank you also to our judge Michelle Cowin. What an honour to have your breeding program affirmed in such a way by one of your peers and often times competitor.
Full results can be found on Dobermann Pacifica, but in summary -
Ch. Jenson Shastah - Best in Show, Challenge Bitch and Australian Bred in Show
Ch. Jenson Chelsea Bun - Reserve Challenge Bitch and Opposite Sex Open in Show
Jenson Star Spangled -  Puppy in Show
Jenson Smart Cookie - Champion Puppy in Show and Minor Puppy in Show (at six months and six days of age)
Ch. Jenson Haleakala UD - Winner of both the Open and Utility obedience rings.
(We don't take much credit for Maureen's success in obedience - rather acknowledge her victory.)

Thank you to the Queenslanders for their hospitality. I hope they will allow us to come back next year. Each year they threaten to blockade the Highway but so far their sense of good sportsmanship has stopped them doing so.

Thanks as always to Lea and Neil Rushforth for caring for and showing "The Buns". Also for doing such a good job with "Cori" -Jenson Star Spangled. This Striker daughter was only delivered from Jeni Matthews in Adelaide to Lea's household four days before the show.

Thanks to Andrew Lafferty who has taken "Cookie" for us to be shown in Melbourne. We're sure she'll make her mark on the Melbourne show scene!

Well done also to Corinne and Ray Nunn on winning Baby in Show with a dog out of Shastah's litter sister- Ch Jenson Shastina.

For those of you who were wondering - Ch Jenson Strikes Back, who won Baby in Show in 1997 and Junior in Show in 1998 couldn't make it this year......we couldn't fit her in the car!

15 May 1999
Congratulations to Jenson Catch A Star "Allie" co-owned with Jeni Matthews, who won Best Puppy in Show at the Adelaide Dobermann Specialty under breed specialist Alan Addicott (Qld). Allie was less than 7 months of age at the time of her win and was shown in Puppy to separate her from her sister. Jeni is a good handler, but hasn't yet developed the skill of showing two in the same class!!
